Shrocks on the Rock – April
Funny story! During Saturday outreach me(Karen) and two students were hiking out to where our Samaritan Ladies were doing business. They sit by at an intersection of two highways with a busy overpass. So as we are walking a semi-truck driver yells something to us in a language I don’t understand and I just wave my Bible and smile. My two students just start cracking up laughing. They said he was asking if I was selling! Yes this had happened to me before so I just take it in stride. But as I thought about my response of raising my Bible it reminded me of something I had been teaching in our Bible school out of Paul’s letters. There were many false teachers that were peddling the gospel to make money. And still today around the world we hear so much about the prosperity gospel and there are many false teachers. So in I Thessalonians 2:4 Paul says “We have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not to please man, but to please God who tests our hearts.” We are not out there to flatter people or for gain in fact it’s the opposite and a lot of the girls run from us, the truth, and from Jesus. But that day several did get saved and presented their needs to us for jobs, clothes and food for their families.

Jason had a great time teaching Biblical Counseling this term. We spend a lot of time researching the scriptures from the greatest counselor of them all, Jesus. The students very much enjoyed the class and the stories about the different issues he faced while working in the prison.
We took the sick to clinics only to find there are no meds, delivered food parcels and medicine to people in need, and ran several people downtown to get set up on disability grants. As our students and interns go out they are seeing salvations and healings. It is amazing to be a part of both the physical and spiritual helps that people need around us. There is such a separation of those that have money and those in poverty in South Africa. Go into the cities and the wealthy are everywhere. Come out towards the townships and people live hand to mouth.

We attended a church that one of our interns is from and they have been friends of Teen Missions since we moved onto our current property in 1997. Pastor Mashongoane was giving the church some history of our work together. They have had 3 new pastors come from our Bible school and are now serving in branch churches. They have hosted 6 of our summer Boot Camp teams over the years, and have sent youth to the camp every year since we have arrived. Living Gospel has been great partners with us in building up the youth in their community.

In February Lilly, our staff from Madagascar, left when she could not get her visa extended. God has been so gracious to us to fill this gap and we are now getting TWO new staff from Indonesia, Fatiada and Yulyanti(Tia and Shanty) on May 12. Please pray for these girls as they have never experienced winter weather before and will be arriving here just at the beginning of our cold season. They can’t even get warm jackets in Indonesia so we’ll have to bundle them up once they arrive. We got word that the new staff gal from Canada, Lorraine, will not be coming with the team in July but it will be October as she still needs to raise some more support and attend a wedding.

Praise the Lord I(Karen) was able to get 2 months of my diabetic meds at the clinic for free after waiting only 4 hours. Some days it is much longer than that! I use the time in sharing and praying with those around me. It’s a ministry in itself. Next is Jason’s turn. He is really struggling with pain and stiffness in his hip, knee and ankle joints and we need to get him into an arthritis specialist which will not be free.

Our first volunteers for building the Tabernacle will be arriving the end of the month! The Brays bring a lot of experience in carpentry and sewing and will be a huge blessing to the African Awakening project which will bring revival to many countries in Africa. The main purpose is building a life-size replica of the Old Testament Tabernacle from Exodus 25-31 in the Bible and showing people how it is a foreshadowing of what Jesus accomplished through His living, dying and resurrection. They are already doing this in the U.S. and you can get access to see where they have it set up at as it travels through the states. View it at website and check it out. But now we are going to build one in SOUTH AFRICA! We are raising up 300 prayer partners to prepare the way for this project. If you would like to pray for this, please email me at along with your email and I will add you to our group to receive prayer points.

April with the family brought celebrations with Easter in Joberg with Jenn & Symps at Rhema Church and Skyping with our family in the States. Symps had a great birthday with buffet at Monte and got a special treat as Jason took him on his first safari ever. Jolie celebrated at school with Oreo cupcakes and will be doing a spa treatment for her big day. 13 looks great on her! We thank the Lord we live in a country where we can freely worship the Lord and take His gospel forward. Thank you for praying and supporting us to make that possible.

Praise for good doctors and free meds in South Africa
He is Risen Indeed! Great Easter celebrations and birthdays
We now have TWO teenagers in the house which is a praise but prayers needed for us!
Pray for safe travel for Tia and Shanty from Indonesia on May 12
Pray also for safe travel for the Brays from the US on May 31
Pray for Jason’s aches/joint pain, wisdom to find a specialist, and provision to cover the cost
Continue to pray for the funds for the mini bus. We have $26,000 more to go

Grace and peace to all our friends and family around the world!
